From Saturday 14 Feb the picturesque National Trust manor house near Helmsley will open its doors for a new season.
Sitting on the banks of the River Rye and with more than 500 years of history, visitors to Nunnington Hall can expect to see the start of spring colours emerging in the gardens, a half-term trail around the historic hall, and the last chance to see the stunning photography exhibition ‘All the Woods a Stage’.
The gardens are starting to bloom with early spring flowers along the riverbanks, and the Iris Garden will see its first spring following its recent re-design.
Lion’s Den play area
Elsewhere in the garden, little adventurers can explore the Lion’s Den play area, featuring a natural obstacle course, a rope bridge and a wooden climbing frame.
Jungle Book activities
Inside throughout February half term families, will be transported into the world of Rudyard Kipling’s the Jungle Book. The iconic characters from the famous children’s book will lead families through the hall to complete themed activities, tip-toing around like Shere Khan the tiger or testing their memory like Hathi the elephant.
At the end of the trail visitors can relax in the second-hand book shop and spend time reading the famous Jungle Book for themselves.
In addition to exploring the hall, the current exhibition ‘All the Woods a Stage’ created in collaboration with Joe Cornish and Simon Baxter continues until Sunday 29 March. The gallery showcases predominantly new photographs that celebrate the beauty and vital significance of trees, woodlands, and forests across the UK.
Manor house tea room
Before heading home, visitors can indulge in a light lunch or home-cooked sweet treats in the tea room, situated inside the historic manor house. Current favourites include February’s scone of the month Rhubarb Crumble, warming Steak and Ale Moo Pie, and a classic seasonal soup of the day.
Nunnington Hall, including the Tea Room and garden, is open daily from 14 February for half-term then Tuesday – Sunday. Free entry for National Trust members and under-fives.
