How to get to York Castle Museum
Kirkgate
One of the oldest recreated indoor streets in the world and the first to be opened in Britain. Created by Dr John Lamplugh Kirk, the founder of the Castle Museum and opened in 1938, it is named after him.
York Castle Prison
York Castle Museum housed York prison in the 18th Century. The original cells and exercise yard still exist and you can experience a brutal and crooked prison and meet the most notorious prisoner: the legendary highwayman, Dick Turpin.
